The Eastern Columbia Building was designed by Claud Beelman and opened in 1930 in the Broadway Theater District of downtown Los Angeles Located at 849 S. Broadway, the Eastern Columbia is a beautiful example of art deco architecture. The steel-reinforced concrete structure is covered with glossy turquoise terra cotta with a gold and blue trim.
Originally constructed as the headquarters for the furniture and clothing stores, Eastern Outfitting Company and the Columbia Outfitting Company, the thirteen-story building was converted to condominiums in 2006. The Eastern Columbia Lofts was converted to 147 units by the firm Killefer Flammang Architects. The interior redesign was done by the firm Kelly Wearstler Interior Design.
