I’ve been working as a book designer and layout artist/typesetter for publishers since graduating from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in English.
My first job was managing a typesetting shop in Ann Arbor with early Macintosh computers. When I moved to San Francisco two years later my Macintosh skills were very much in demand and I began working for book publishers including John Wiley & Sons, Addison Wesley Longman, and McGraw Hill.
There are many online book retailers today, including CreateSpace and Amazon Kindle, Apple iBookstore, Google, Barnes & Noble’s Nook, and Lulu. The history of publishing is one of constant evolution and adaptation. But the goal remains the same: great book design and layout to create beautiful books that are easy to read and enjoy.
